Spain is well known for its royal heritage that has transcended into the modern era but with less influence than it had in the previous years. The historical official residence of the king is the El Escorial which is situated a few kilometers from Madrid, the capital city. It is listed as one of the royal sites in Spain and currently operates as a monastery, museum, school as well as a royal place.
This royal site has a lot of buildings that provide cultural as well as historical significance to the people of Spain. It has a lot of sites within the residence that allow visitors to learn more about the royal heritage of the Spanish people. Some of the notable sites within the El Escorial include the pantheon of the kings that houses the tombs that belong to the early kings and queens and are about twenty six in number.
Another tourist attraction is the hall of battles which houses the military inspired paintings that depict the battles of King Philip in his battles. The paintings also display the Spanish military in most of their victories. The palace of Philip II which was the official residence of the emperor is also a sight to behold and is located near the altar of the basilica and has many decorated rooms as an added feature of the palace.
The basilica is one of the most popular attractions at the El Escorial because of its gothic style as well as the dome and the ornamented altar as its most striking features. It also has added attractions such as the kneeling statues of Philip as well as Charles that are made of bronze. The burial sites of the residents of El Escorial that were not royalty such as queens, princesses and princes are known as the pantheon of the princess. This site is most notable because of the white marble tomb of Prince John.
The architectural museum at El Escorial as well as the art gallery is mostly visited by tourists who have interest in ancient developments as well as art. The museum houses the materials used in the construction of the king’s palace such as tools, cranes vakantiewoning spanje, as well as documents and the blue print of the palace.
