La Orotava is located barely 6km away from Puerto de la Cruz town. This makes it very convenient for tourists to travel to and fro between the towns to enjoy their holiday resorts. Orotava is as beautiful as its name with the surrounding lush valley that brings in huge wealth to this quaint resort town. Its fertile soil encourages manifold cash crops during the sixteenth century.


Town Attractions

Orotava has been well-preserved as an ancient town with many cobbled streets that give it a mysterious ambience for discovery. It is also famous for twelve distinct and impressive mansions called the Doce Casas that were built in Canarian architecture which were the residences of past affluent families.

Some are currently open for public viewing while functioning as shops selling souvenirs. There is also the Jardin Victoria garden which is huge and ornately decorated that is worth exploring while at Orotava.

There is a moderate handicraft museum called the Artesania Iberoamericana which can take you half a day browsing through its intricate. But the best attraction in La Oraotava has to be the celebrations of Corpus Christi where the streets are beautifully decorated with baked leaves, flower petals and volcanic sand. It is this 1847 tradition with biblical motif displays that attract many visitors to La Orotava.

Accommodation

Since La Orotava is not very big, there are only two places to stay for visitors. Nevertheless, you can find Pension Silene on Tomas Zerolo 9 Street that offers rooms with en-suite showers as well as small balconies to view the town surroundings. The other accommodation is Hotel Victoria on Hennano Apolinar 8 Street which is slightly more expensive. It was a Canarian mansion of 400 years refurbished for welcoming visitors to Orotava. It offers only 13 double rooms complete with satellite TV, modem and fax connections.

Restaurants and Food

There are some good restaurants in La Orotava where you will enjoy the local delicacies like fine sole in prawn sauce and asparagus or roast cheese with mojo or ropa vieja. Some of these delights are actually served in the open grounds like courtyard to give you a more relaxed and enjoying dining experience. You will find many affordable restaurants to whet your appetite anytime in La Orotava. There is even a bistro that serves tapas and omelettes.

Fulfilling Experience

Even though La Orotava is small, its atmosphere of life is one that is hard to beat anywhere else vakantiehuizen spanje; particularly when the festivals are on which are plentiful. The small but quaint Spanish village can offer a tourist a different and exciting holiday with flag-decked streets and loud bands celebrating some local fiesta with the whole town population out on the streets. The visitor has little choice but be drawn into the celebrations.
